Shopping - Tailors
Finding a tailor in Singapore is not difficult, they will find you. Just stroll around Far East Plaza, Lucky Plaza or some of the other Orchard Road Plaza's and the catch phrase "Sir, suit for you" will follow you (if you are a man that is). Another area with plenty of tailors is Little India.

You can choose the design of your suit there and then but if you have a 'favorite' suit (or shirt, or skirt) just bring it along and it will be copied exactly, and we mean exactly that. Cloth also has to be chosen, from light wool to cotton, linen, silk and other types. This is actually the most difficulty bit because most of us will find it difficult to judge what a decent quality material is (and what it should cost).

The production will take about a week though rush-jobs are possible and there are some that will 'mail order' for you.

Cost? Very hard to tell, a pair of trousers generally goes below S$100, a suit below S$300 and a shirt below S$40, sometimes it could be well below there, particularly if you buy some stuff together. Having said this, the quality of the material still has a lot to do with the price. As a very rough guide; you should not pay more for it than an off-the-rack in Europe, the US or Japan and shirts should not even be more expensive than in the shop here, for similar qualities. (A note of warning; no matter how little you have paid a local will always tell you it was too much)

Some suggestions? O.k. but please think of all possible disclaimers and non-guaranties before you progress.

For Gents;
In Peninsular Plaza you can find 'Emporio' on the third floor, run by a young Chinese gentlemen.
In Toa Payoh Centre you can find 'Hong Guan Trading', it is advised to bring an interpreter and a sample suit but than you can expect good value for money.

For Ladies;
Sorry, no experience, please let us know if you have and we will incorporate!
