Singapore these days has a name of being safe and strict with law-abiding citizens and these things are true but that doesn´t mean people don´t like to party here, even before the ban on bar-top dancing was lifted!
The main problem may be there are so many places to go to (and only so many people to go round) that the trick is to know where to go. But first, for the new arrivals, some basics.
Companionship;
Just arrived in Singapore? Alone? Just broke up with your girlfriend or have no person to go out with for any other reason? Find a date in Singapore online.
Your wallet;
Elsewhere on this site we already mentioned drinks are not cheap, particularly not in the ‘hotspots’ but happy-hours and special promotions can keep the tab down. Ladies are much more fortunate than the other half of the population because a number of the bars and clubs have ‘Ladies Nights’ at which the ladies can drink for free or heavily discounted, if they arrive in a group of 10 on more they can even get money to come in. Which bar does what and when is for somewhere else, we don´t want to keep changing.
24/7;
Not quite but close. There are an increasing number of bars with 24 hour licenses and during good weekends they are willing to use them. From, roughly, Thursday to Sunday you´re all set.
SPG;
Say what? You´ll here the acronym soon enough, it stands for Sarong Party Girl which in turn means ‘a girl wanting to have a good time’. It is also a girl without a guy and to have a good time they are looking for one, preferably one that can spend a bit. You can figure out the rest yourself but don´t mistake them for ‘professional’ ladies!
Safe;
Quite, there are very few places in town where you could get into serious trouble, if you are in one where you can understand literally no-one you´re probably there, otherwise; No problem (generally). The rubber type of safe, cheap and available in every supermarket and drugstore so don´t be stupid.
(Party) drugs;
Don´t be stupid, this is Singapore. Or, as St. Peter said to the next in line at Heavens Gate: “Which part of ‘death to drug traffickers’ did you not understand´.
Infantile;
huh ... well, most call it ‘adult’ but we thought we would forego the predictable comments in exchange for something more original, so shoot. Anyway, no point in being hypocritical and forgetting this bit. ‘Old’ Singapore was known as the place to be, a rowdy resting spot for sailors with it´s throbbing hart in Bugis. No more. But Singapore is still a big (port) city and there is no denying human nature. The best source of information on this subject is probably your cabby, provided you can understand each other (no pun intended) but the household names for places are Geylang (can not call it brothels but ..) and Orchard Towers (can call it pubs but ..). Orchard Towers may be more fun to simply go out too but note that the ladies in Geylang get regular mandatory check-ups. More on the next page.
