Books? Why a section about books? Well first of all because the writer of this particular bit likes books and secondly because the number and variety of bookshops may surprise you.
If you are looking for a particular book, whether fiction or on a particular subject you may try some of the mega-stores here, there are Borders and Kinokuniya, both on Orchard road and huge.
Well stocked too but more spread-out with a network of smaller shops are Popular, WHSmith and MPH which you will encounter at MRT stations and shopping malls island-wide.
There are also some 'discount' shops selling books very cheap but with limited stock, their location changes regularly depending on where they can get cheap rent and they also operate temporary 'stalls'.
Lastly there is also a type of shop where you can 'rent' books or buy them at a reasonable price. When you buy the book there is a slip inside with a stamp giving a guaranteed buy-back price. You can opt to keep the book or return it within a couple of weeks, very useful if you don't want to end-up with stacks of books. Locations of such shops we know are Far East Plaza (Sunny) and Holland Road shopping centre.
Amazon also delivers in Singapore and off course there is always the library.
