Visas and Passes
Depending exactly on what basis you are coming here you will have to apply for the appropriate visa and passes. There is a large number of these and for full details we refer you to the relevant authorities (see further down and sidebar), this is just a quick overview. The amount of rules and regulations may appear great but generally the processing is efficient if you’ve filled-out the correct forms.

Under employment of a company

If you are going to be employed by a company in Singapore, regardless of whether this is a ‘local’ company or a foreign branch, this company will have to request an employment pass for you, the exact type of pass depends on the type of contract and level of remuneration. Application of this falls under the Ministry of Manpower . There is the normal employment pass, short term pass, and training pass.

If your family is joining you they will need dependants passes, these basically fall under the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority but can be applied through the MOM too.

Self Employed

If you want to start a company in Singapore or play a more active role in a participation you already have you can apply for an Employment Pass for Entrepreneurs at the Ministry of Manpower .

For people in Singapore on an employment or dependants pass it is also possible to start a business, more on that in our ‘Professional’ section.

Others

For students, lecturers or people on a short tem professional visit there are special passes which have to be applied at the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority where you can find all the details.
